Sustainable Practices

We try to limit the impact of our farming practices on the environment around us through various methods.

  • Rotational grazing for both sheep and horses limits the potential to ruin grass roots by hooves or grazing too short, plus distributes manure evenly to put valuable nutrients back into the soil.

  • Silvopastures allows animals to graze on the understory and ground covers of forest environments. This year the sheep have been clearing brush at the perimeter fence line and our new picnic area.

  • As we try to limit chemical usage we have adopted guinea fowl to be our first line of defense against disease carrying ticks. Unfortunately, living in "harmony" with wildlife often means the fox, mink, and owls have supply of dinner.
