ABOUT US

At Steadfast Fjords, we are dedicated to preserving and promoting the remarkable Norwegian Fjord Horse- one of the oldest and purest breeds in the world. Fjords are known for strength, versatility, and a gentle nature. They are not only striking in appearance but also incredibly reliable in temperament.

Bred for centuries in the mountains of Norway, these horses excel in riding, driving, farm work, therapy, and family companionship. Our breeding program focuses on maintaining the breed’s purity, sound conformation, and calm, willing disposition- traits that make them ideal partners for riders of all ages and experience levels.

All of our Norwegian Fjords are steadfast: loyal, dependable, and unwavering in both work and companionship.

THE PEOPLE

Rachel and Connor White own and operate Steadfast Fjords in Canaan, Maine. Having owned several Fjords over the past 18 years, we decided it was finally time to pursue our breeding dreams.  The farm relocated to a new property, so we are starting from scratch with infrastructure and a small breeding group.

Rachel has operated lesson, training, and camp programs for over 12 years, only stopping to enter graduate school. Now a professor and livestock educator, she educates Maine farmers on animal care best practices and conducts research around parasite management. The farm is a "living laboratory" to experiment with regenerative practices, promoting soil, forage and animal health.

Connor is a wildlife biologist and jack-of-all-trades. He has recently built a trail system on the property and the new mare barn. Though not having come from a horse background, he has grown in his ability to work with horses on the ground and in the saddle.

In 2026, Rachel was elected to serve on the Board of Directors and is Vice President for the

Norwegian Fjord Horse Alliance (NFHA).
